Let’s Make: Cookie Cutter Bird Feeders

Your children will love this hands-on activity!

Have fun making these easy cookie cutter bird feeders at home. Simply hang them up in a tree once finished and watch out for various birds in the garden.

For the birdseed, we recommend buying a small seed mixture. Millet and pinhead oatmeal will help a wide range of birds like sparrows and finches.

What you will need:

250g Room Temperature Lard

500g Birdseed

Spoon

Mixing Bowl

Jug

Baking Tray

Parchment Paper

Straws

Cookie Cutters

Twine or String

Method:

1. Cut the lard into small cubes.

2. Mix the lard and birdseed together in a large mixing bowl.

3. Place the cookie cutters on a baking tray with parchment paper.

4. Carefully spoon the mixture into the cookie cutters. Press the mixture firmly into the cutters using the back of your spoon. Fill to the top of the cookie cutters.

5. To make the hole for your string, push a straw through. We have done this at the top in the middle.

6. Leave the bird feeders to dry overnight, before putting string or twine through the hole. Hang the feeder outside and watch out for birds in your garden.
