Let’s Create: Seasonal Edible Paints

Make a magical firework display using seasonal edible paints by @sensoryplaymyway! All you need are paintbrushes, an easel and vegetables to make this fun activity at home for Bonfire Night.

What you will need:

9 Tbsp Greek Yoghurt

2 Large Handfuls of Kale

1/2 Fresh Beetroot or 2-3 Pickled Beetroot

1/2 Butternut Squash

Paintbrushes

Plum Discovery Create & Paint Easel

Method:

1. Spoon three tbsp of yoghurt into a pot. Repeat so you have three separate pots of yoghurt.

2. Beetroot paint (pink/purple): Grate the beetroot. Place the grated beetroot into a sieve and press with a spoon into one of the yoghurt pots. This will get the colour out of the beetroot. You can add the grated beetroot straight into the yoghurt if you want a textured paint. Mix up until all combined.

3. Kale paint (light green): Boil the kale for 5 minutes. Blitz or finely chop. Press through a sieve into one pot of yoghurt and mix. Again, add the kale straight in if you want a textured paint.

4. Butternut squash paint (yellow): Peel and dice the butternut squash. Boil for 10 minutes or until soft. Drain and mash. Add the mashed butternut squash to the final pot of yoghurt and stir.

5. Use paintbrushes and an easel to make a firework display. Hang fairy lights around the easel for when it goes dark. Finish off with rockets. The rockets are made from toilet rolls with tinfoil and ribbons.
